Saying

Goodbye

Foreword

It’s taken a while, but I’m getting better at talking about end of life services.

Making decisions at this time can be difficult. The advice offered on this page comes only from my personal experience. Grief and grieving is intensely personal.

My role here is to help you say your final goodbyes in a way that honours your loved one’s memory and would make them proud.

There’s no right way or wrong way to go about it. Only the way you can manage at the time. The best we can do is build a bridge between what the recently departed wanted and what those left behind need.

Some people want to celebrate the life, others need to mourn the loss.

Some people leave very clear instructions, others leave it to those they’ve left behind to make it up as best they can.

My rule of thumb is this:

If the loss is unexpected, a funeral feels more fitting. Everyone will be at different stages of grief and this gives everyone room to just be.

If the loss has come at the end of a long road, it’s normal to feel relief. And if you feel like celebrating the life, that’s absolutely appropriate.

Either way, it’s good to talk about it.
